What’s the best way to let people try self-hosted apps without making anyone install them?
The answer I found is Dashy: a customizable homepage where you can add links, buttons, notes—whatever you want. I used it to create a showcase page for a collection of self-hosted services and projects, plus other open-source projects, split by category, with buttons to access the demos, my contacts, and the video guides.

To access the various demos: click on the image of the service you’re interested in and use demo as the username and demo as the password. Where it doesn’t work, the specific password is shown on the page.
